There was two flavors, PB&J and Pizza. I decided to film the PB&J because it sounded like the better of the two. I won’t say I was wrong, but after opening the Pizza this morning, it was fantastic! It had a pizza flavor Chex Mix feel to it, but it wasn’t all light and airy. Nice hunks of real pepperoni would have made my day, but the flavor was in there.

So on with the show…

So I signed up for GrandCentral.com a few years back (at the urging of lifehacker.com) and I pretty much sat on it. The point of this service is to have “one number to rule them all”. You can setup all your phone numbers to point to one number which they give you, but I didn’t trust this new service. Well, maybe I was just too lazy to give out my “new” number.

A few weeks ago my buddy asked if I had any invites to Google Voice. I was a bit confused about what he was talking about but it was soon explained to me that Google bought GrandCentral.com and dubbed it Google Voice. Now my confidence shot through the roof and I am ready to give out my new number.

Now, I guess I could just start telling people of my new number but the first hangup became clear. I can inform everyone of my new number, but they will still be getting calls from my old number. There is a way to initiate a call online which is kinda nifty. You log into Google Voice and find the person you want to talk to and hit “call”. Google Voice will call you, then after you answer, it will dial who you want to talk to and their caller ID will show your new number.

I wanted to somehow get around this. Beyond hope, I thought maybe Sprint would let me change my cellphone’s caller ID to my new Google Voice number. That would be the easiest thing to do. But alas, no dice.

Tonight, I came home excited about Google Voice and tried to explain this all to my wife. She wasn’t too excited about all this; “But you already have a phone number.” “Yeah, but this my permanent number!” “I will know when you get a new number.” Ugh. So I was trying to show off some of it’s features. I finally ended up starting an SMS conversation.

“Who is this 406 number you’re SMS’n from???” That threw me for a loop, we were totally confused. I dialed the number and lo and behold, it rung her phone with my new number! After a few minutes with Google, it turns out that Google Voice does this mapping magic between you and your contact’s numbers. From the looks of it, it’s a permanent association. When I call or SMS 406-953-4171, it will connect me with my wife, but with my Google Voice number!

If YOU call that number, I have no clue what it would do. When one of my registered phones call it, Google Voice knows it’s me and that I’m trying to call my wife. For now I have a solution. SMS all my friends and get them to respond back. Then take the number that shows up and add it to their contact info on their phone. Use that number to interact with them.

The only thing is, I wish Google Voice would show you these mappings. I doubt I can get the utility companies to SMS me back (for the caller ID account lookups), let alone some of my non-tech savvy relatives. And this would only work with cellphones and not land lands. Keeping track of two numbers will suck too. But hey, it’s a start.

As of now, my current cellphone number works, but don’t be surprised if you get an SMS from me asking you to respond to it.

And yes, as soon as I get some invites, I will be handing them out.

Kinda, sorta. What I’m really doing is streaming hulu.com through my PS3 to my PSP. You can do that out of the box with both of them. I even got it going from work (I had to get the wife to turn on the PS3 and put it in Remote Play mode)! I’ve been watching youtube videos on my PS3(or PSP via PS3) since that last flash update sony put out last year. For some reason the thought of trying other video sites didn’t occur to me!

Slowly my PSP is turning into my pocket media center. I don’t want to say I hate having to stream some of the online content through my PS3 instead of just letting the PSP handle it, but it works as it is now. There was no lag so the audio and video was great!

Time to hunt down more video sites! Any suggestions?

It’s time to move on, and I think this will help me! I’m constantly talking with current and former zappos employees whenever I go out and it feels like everyone is getting over it. My nightmares about someone finding a loophole in my papers and me having to go back to work for them have finally stopped! My buddies have gone out and found other jobs. We’re all hanging out and drinking beer again.

Not to sound too harsh, but I nearly fell out of my chair when a screenshot of a snide comment I made on twitter, and was tracked on http://twitter.zappos.com/, ended up on an article about the Zappos Layoffs. But the wheels of karma were spinning fast because that same day I got a computer virus in which I had to reformat my whole machine. Next time I won’t laugh so hard.

The other night, while I was playing Oblivion on my PS3, I thought “Why do all my video game characters get to have all the fun?” They are running around hacking and slashing with pockets full of fresh fruits, dried meats, cheese wheels and wines. So I looked over at my book shelf and saw that the few hip flasks I’ve collected over the years are still there. Now what do I fill it with?

While I was at the store buying drinks for the rest of the family, I stumbled upon a giant bottle of cheap port. From what I remember reading in The Book of the New Sun, one of the characters warmed up a girl who came out of a lake with some sort of wine from a flask. I don’t know how traditional drinking wine from a hip flask is, but I thought it was a worth a try. Besides, I love port!

Now I’m stuck with what flask to use. I have both a 3oz and an 8oz stainless steel one. Also, two plastic 12oz ones, one rigid and the other flexible. Just to see if I can catch a taste from the flasks, I filled them all up so they can hang out a day or so. This morning put the 3oz one in my back pocket and the 8oz one in my bag. I’m a little worried that they may leak also, but so far they seem to stay sealed even in my back pocket.

You must love what’s in your hip flask warm. I was so surprised how warm the port was when I took a hit off the one in my back pocket. In fact, I think it made the port taste better from the glass I had last night! I don’t think I would be able to handle a whiskey or scotch. As much as I would love to be a whiskey drinker, I haven’t found anything I like.

After I took my swig from the 3oz flask, I put the 8oz one in my back pocket now. I can still sit in my chair but I have yet to forget it’s there. I can’t imagine carrying around the bigger plastic flasks around unless you’re trying to sneak some booze in through a metal detector or wand.

For me, port in the 8oz will do it, but I’m still on the lookout for some high octane to put in the 3oz. Anyone have any suggestions?
